Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! I am very excited to be back for another great year of adventure in art!

** Please remember that our art room has an Instagram account that we are very active on! You can give us a follow here:

Expectations in the Art Room:

  • Respecting all supplies
  • Respecting each other
  • Using complete time given on a project
  • Listening respectfully to others
  • Cleaning up after yourself

*Following these expectations will also go into each students grade for each project

Here are the rubrics that your students will be getting familiar with this year:

Elementary (K-4th) elementary-rubric

Middle (5th-7th) middle-school-rubric

**Point values will be given and may change with each project

We have had a very busy first trimester, but that is not stopping us from chugging along in the world of art!

4 year olds, Kindergarten and 1st grade are all learning about the colorful and ORGANIC  world of Henri Matisse! they have been doing wonderful learning about Henri’s life and his art. They are making a small part of what is going to be a large mural.

Here is an example of a Matisse paper cutout mural:

2nd grade and 3rd grade are both learning about art and artists from their respective countries to be displayed at the culture fair.

4th grade, 5th grade, 6th grade, and 7th grade are all learning about the art of PRINTMAKING.

4th grade is learning about Collagraphs and they are making their own printing plate.

Middle school is learning about LINOCUTS. They will be carving their own linoleum printing plate with an image of their choice copied onto it.

I hope you all had a very nice winter break! Now back to making all the art!

I visited an art center in Michigan City, Indiana and they had an exhibit called Living Architecture that was all about the evidence of immigrant labor. This was one of my favorite pieces. Can you believe what it is made out of??

The highlight of the day was 4th grade FINALLY getting to print their collagraphs! They loved it!

The 4 year olds started making their parrot for the book fair decorations!

I hope everyone had a great ending to the year through our continuous learning! We came together as a school community, and reached goals, and all learned new things! I am very sad that we did not get to see each other for the end of the year, but I hope you all have a great summer and I will miss you all very much!
